British artist Griff has skyrocketed to fame, landing 3.3 million monthly listeners with her catchy songs and attracting the attention of Taylor Swift.

The King of My Heart singer shared Griff’s new track Vertigo with her 271 million Instagram followers, writing: ‘Damn Griff I love this one.’

‘Taylor Swift has listened to vertigo someone pinch me,’ she captioned a video of her freaking out at the 12-time Grammy Award winner’s post.

Vertigo, with its yearning breakup lyrics, channels emotions that feature heavily on Taylor’s albums, such as the soon-to-be-released 1989 (Taylor’s Version).

The 22-year-old was in disbelief, screaming before she said: ‘Taylor I don’t think you understand how much I love you.’

Griff told Metro.co.uk that Taylor Swift is her ‘dream’ artist to work with but dismissed even opening for the pop icon, let alone a collaboration.

Griff has opened for the likes of Coldplay and Dua Lipa and along with her own albums has penned songs for Hailee Steinfeld, Maisie Peters, and Kim Petras.

‘The only other artist I think about touring with now is Taylor Swift,’ Griff shared before her triumphant show at All Points East last month.

Griff debuted Vertigo live on stage at the London festival, which Taylor’s best friends and sister trio Haim headlined.

She continued: ‘I don’t know if it’s gonna happen as she’s already announced her European dates. I’m happy to either be there or I would obviously dream of being on that stage with her.

‘But I just don’t think yeah, I’m not holding my breath there.’

Little did Griff know a week later, Taylor would be shouting her out on social media – what a whirlwind!

The pair did actually meet and shared a portion of chips at the Brit Awards in 2021, the year Griff won the Rising Star award.

Taylor has announced Paramore as her opening act for the European leg of her groundbreaking Eras Tour but we wouldn’t say no to an extra opener.

When speaking about what she admires in other artists, Griff said ‘It’s the songwriting and the musicianship first and foremost.

‘If they’re telling something new or they’re sonically just writing beautiful music. If it feels like they’re building a world around themselves. That’s something I can relate to.’

It’s no surprise then that queen of storytelling and lyrical tapestries, Taylor, has taken a shine to the young singer-songwriter.

In her documentary Miss Americana, the Betty singer said: ‘Everybody in music has their own niche speciality thing that they do that sets them apart from everybody else, and my storytelling is what it is for me.’

Despite her penchant for collaborations, such as the catchy Head on Fire with Sigrid, Griff isn’t jumping at any old opportunity.

She laughed: ‘A heavy metal [collaboration] I probably wouldn’t do – I think that’s where my limits are.’

Griff’s new single Vertigo is available to listen now’ – as Taylor Swift said.
