Couple shamed by easyJet cabin crew after 'joining mile-high club'

Shocking footage circulating on social media shows a couple exposed gallivanting at about 30,000 feet.

The pair were caught joining the ‘mile high club’ on a busy easyJet flight from Luton to Ibiza on Friday.

Posted on X, formerly Twitter, the clip shows a flight attendant opening the door to the plane’s bathroom, revealing the man and woman semi-clothed inside.

The man then snaps the door back into place as the crew member, wearing glasses and an easyJet uniform shirt, places his head in his hands.

The audio features other passengers erupting into cheers and fits of hysterics.

One woman is heard to shriek: ‘Oh my f***ing god.’

The person recording the clip then adds: ‘I got a*se and everything.’

Social media users have also flocked to the comments sections to share their hot takes.

One person wrote: ‘The fact it’s easyJet is sending me into space.’

Another said: ‘Ryanair would charge extra.’

Others added they ‘hope that wasn’t the pilot’, joking about ‘the fella walking down the aisle after putting in the best 15-second performance of his life.’

easyJet has since confirmed the flight was met by police officers after arriving in Ibiza due to the incident, but did not say whether any arrests were made.

It’s not the first time people joining the ‘mile high club’ has made headlines, nor even the most blatant attempt.

Metro has previously published footage of an equally amorous couple that didn’t even make it to the plane’s toilet.

Our reporters also recently spoke with several flight attendants for a behind-the-scenes look at what really happens aboard planes – from champagne hand baths to the fact most staff avoid the in-flight flood.

Two construction workers arrested for smashing through the Great Wall of China https://metro.co.uk/2023/09/10/two-workers-arrested-for-smashing-through-the-great-wall-of-china-19477424/ https://metro.co.uk/2023/09/10/two-workers-arrested-for-smashing-through-the-great-wall-of-china-19477424/#respond Sun, 10 Sep 2023 20:37:25 +0000 https://metro.co.uk/?p=19477424
China authorities arrest 2 for smashing shortcut through Great Wall with excavator

China’s most significant historic defence against invading forces has been breached by two workers looking for an easy shortcut.

Authorities in the People’s Republic of China arrested two construction labourers, a 38-year-old man named Zheng and a 55-year-old woman named Wang, accused of smashing through the Great Wall.

Pictures released by the government of Youyu County, several hundred kilometres west of the capital of Beijing, show a dirt road cut through a dilapidated section of the barrier.

The section in question is thought to lie at the western extremity of the wall in Shanxi province.

Parts of this section are thought to have been constructed as much as 2,000 years ago, though they remain some distance from the restored areas of the United Nations protected heritage site frequented by tourists.

Reports state that Zheng and Wang carved the route because they were looking for a shorter route to facilitate construction work they were doing in nearby towns.

They are understood to remain in custody, with further legal action pending.

Begun sometime during the 7th century BC with its best-known sections completed during the Ming dynasty, which lasted between 1368 and 1644, The Great Wall is one of China’s most iconic and treasured historic landmarks.

It failed, however, to prevent the Ming dynasty being toppled by invading Manchu tribespeople from the north, who having conquered the wall went on to take over the empire as the Qing dynasty.

In the years that followed, the wall largely well into disrepair, with much of its original stonework pilfered by local villagers.

Interest in the wall as a symbol of patriotism and resistance to outside pressure was revived by China’s communist government in the mid-20th century.

The Great Wall has previously made headlines for the hazards its stony surfaces pose to winter tourists, with footage circulating of dozens of sightseers slipping and clinging to the handrails as they attempt to cross the ice-covered paving.

Online rental service Airbnb has also offered eco-home lodging along the wall in the past, as part of an initiative to promote sustainable tourism in China.

A koala named Claude has been caught red-handed – or green-fingered – chewing his way through seedlings worth £3,000 at a nursery in Australia.

The sneaky marsupial broke into Eastern Forest Nursery, near Lismore in northern New South Wales, and helped himself to thousands of young eucalypt plants before staff stopped him.

He was found one morning sitting on a pole, drowsy with well-fed bliss among the stripped branches, bringing an end to months of cute criminality.

Nursery owner Humphrey Herington told BBC News: ‘He looked like he was full. He looked very pleased with himself.’

He added: ‘There were lots of plants missing that morning…

‘I guess that day he must have had a really big feed and was too tired to go back to his tree.’

Mr Herington swaddled Claude up in a towel and carried him over to trees around 300 metres from his nursery.

However, after just a couple of days the intrepid marsupial had ventured back in once again, and a team on the site is now busy building a koala-proof fence around its seedling tables.

The nursery is used to grow new plants which will later be used to try and boost the endangered koala population – so Claude might have been allowed to enjoy a lot more if he’d had a little more patience.

But Humphrey, who admitted to being ‘a little impressed’ by the koala, also told the BBC the behaviour made him a little worried about local resources.

He said: ‘I’ve been here for 20-odd years and this hasn’t really happened before.

‘Is it that there is a shortage of food?’

Australia officially announced koalas were an endangered species in February last year, after an already-declining population was devastated by bushfires that spanned the summer of 2019 to 2020.

The Australian Koala Foundation believes there are fewer than 60,000 left in the wild.

Gnomes
These gnomes may look innocent, but they’re being used for nefarious purposes (Picture: SWNS)

Anyone spotting a festive gnome in their garden would likely be confused as Christmas is still more than three months away.

However in one Welsh village the decorations are being used for a more sinister purpose.

North Wales Police has issued a warning to anyone who finds a Christmas gnome in their garden – and released pictures of what the decorations could look like.

The issue has been reported in Broughton, a large village in Flintshire close to the border with England.

A spokesman for the Flintshire North branch of the force said: ‘We are aware of a report of individuals in the Broughton area leaving Christmas gnomes in residential front gardens.

‘This type of behaviour is sometimes used as a “calling card” to see if the gnome is collected by the resident.

‘If not, the property is likely to be empty and could be an easy target for burglaries.

‘We would advise residents to be vigilant and ensure your home is secure.’

The force has also shared its top five tips for homeowners to keep their property secure and reduce the likelihood of burglary.

  1. If you’re off on holiday and wish to post anything on social media, make sure your posts aren’t public and that they’re only seen by your friends
  2. Leave lights and a radio on a timer to make the property appear occupied
  3. Get a trusted neighbour to keep an eye on your property or join a Neighbourhood or resident Watch Scheme
  4. Consider asking your neighbours to close curtains after dark and to park on your drive
