Wilko store
There are closing down sales being held up and down the country (Picture: Maureen McLean/Shutterstock)

All 400 Wilko stores are set to close by early October, it’s been revealed – with a wave of shop closures ongoing.

The discount retailer brought in administrators to oversee the insolvency last month – and many branches were pre-emptively hosting closing down sales.

Earlier in September, rivals B&M bought up to 51 branches as part of a £13 million deal – while Poundland owners Pepco have also agreed a deal to buy up to 71 branches which will be rebranded under the Poundland name.

However, a last-minute rescue deal with HMV’s owner to save 300 branches collapsed.

Thousands more workers now face redundancy by early October, administrators PwC have said.

Sadly, a final farewell to Wilko seems to be on the cards – despite hopes that a rescue deal would save the budget brand.

Wondering how long your favourite Wilko branch has left?
